One of the paddle boards was purchased with the kids in mind and I was getting worried that he wouldn't be able to use it. We all have pfds so that's not a problem!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4890065673266941779.post-2674876250460477872023-06-14T13:25:04.238-06:002023-06-14T13:25:04.238-06:00Hi, rules can be quite different depending on wher...Hi, rules can be quite different depending on where you live, but in Canada, you need to have a PFD on the board with you. You don't have to be wearing it, but I make sure my son is always wearing his. I'm a bit more guilty of attaching mine to my board unless I'm on a river and worry about falling in.

Other safety gear would include a whistle which I attach to my PFD. Almost every boat is required to have a buoyant heaving line at least 15m long. SUPs and sit-on-top kayaks are exempt, provided everyone on board is wearing an approved PFD. So I guess technically you only need a rope if you're not wearing your PFD. I have one for my board and I usually bring it when I'm on rivers.

As for kids, there are no rules here that would prohibit kids from using a paddleboard. My son has his own paddleboard and is on it all the time. He's 14.

What I did find out is that youth must be over 16 to wear an inflatable PFD. If they are under that age they require a regular PFD (not the belt that some people wear.)

There are great rules on the website below
https://parks.canada.ca/voyage-travel/securite-safety/planche-paddleboardTanya Koobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12420195832939118709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4890065673266941779.post-77217477761964116872023-06-14T11:44:32.431-06:002023-06-14T11:44:32.431-06:00We just purchased some paddle boards for an upcomi...We just purchased some paddle boards for an upcoming trip but this is all so new to me. What safety equipment do you normally carry? If I understand correctly we need a pfd, whistle and rope? Also do you let your kids paddle on their own? I was hoping to let them explore next to us on a paddle board but I also seen that under 16 isn't allowed to.
Thank you for your time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4890065673266941779.post-74134527573901602842023-05-18T12:24:13.250-06:002023-05-18T12:24:13.250-06:00Hi. It's not a great campground for tents (unless you can get one of the tenting sites down by the water) but it's great with trailers. For tenting, there's a lack of good campgrounds in the Okanagan unless you choose one of the provincial campgrounds. You can go to the BC Prov. Parks website to see them. We usually bike it in May/June. It's easily rideable up the hill then as long as you can climb a steep hill with a few breaks. And yes, there is no shade there. It's not my fav. part either. We usually ride the single track sections out and back too. However, in the spring, when the trail is dry, we like to do it one-way because it's a fun ride from Old Coach to the bottom of that climb. Then we just suck it up and endure the final 2 km uphill back to town. My husband usually gets to the end to meet us at roughly the same time.Tanya Koobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12420195832939118709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4890065673266941779.post-75537588661251518882023-01-08T08:54:26.772-07:002023-01-08T08:54:26.772-07:00We did the bike trail Old Coach Trail, Dry Gulch t...We did the bike trail Old Coach Trail, Dry Gulch to Radium last August. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend for everyone to turn around and bike back to the parking lot when the single tracks are done. The last part of the trail up to Radium was torture. The "trail" turns into some really fine ankle deep powder (maybe pulverized clay) that makes even pushing the bikes really difficult (forget about riding it). Also regular coughing fits from the humongous dust clouds you're kicking up. You have to be at least 20m back from the person pushing in front of you. My husband who turned around to get the car was waiting for us for at least half an hour. Also there's absolutely no shade on that last part. That being said everyone loved the single tracks. It's definitely worth doing. The views are spectacular. Just plan on it being an out and back kind of trip.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4890065673266941779.post-46948592098797052352023-01-08T08:53:19.053-07:002023-01-08T08:53:19.053-07:00We did the bike trail Old Coach Trail, Dry Gulch t...We did the bike trail Old Coach Trail, Dry Gulch to Radium last August.
